Warm spell over.

The warm weather ended this weekend with temperatures ranging from -8 to -30 F. The fall prompted another trip with Lori into the post for a 'real' pair of gloves.

I was surprised, after a long trip into the library today, to find it locked up. Shortened hours this week, posted on the door, owing to 'the holiday'. There is an energy around town. Anticipation of the annual Beaver Round-up Festival.

The festival marks the start of spring and an emergence of wildlife that is sparse over the winter. In this spirit, I myself had my first Alaskan wildlife encounter. A big, fat, white bunny (mistaken at first for my neighbor's poodle) was kicking up allot of snow behind our place on Monday.

The only other event of note this week was making my first moose stew. Which provided substenance for a hike through the snow down to the bay. Apparently the difference between 30 and -30 is a lot of frozen salt water (floating silently and peacefully out to sea).

Hopefully I'll have pictures from dog-sledding to post next week!
